RVZ to ISO Conversion Failed? Fix Common Errors

Fix an RVZ to ISO conversion that failed online. Check the real file type, upload expiry, connection, output space, corruption, and retry steps safely.

If an RVZ to ISO conversion failed, first identify whether the failure happened during file selection, upload, server conversion, payment confirmation, or download. Do not repeatedly rename or re-upload a damaged file. Use the checks below, then return to the online RVZ to ISO converter only when the source, connection, and output destination match the failed stage.

Identify the stage that failed

A selection error appears before data leaves the device. The product expects exactly one .rvz file between one byte and 10 GB. If it rejects the choice immediately, confirm the extension, actual size, and that the file is not a directory or an archive containing an RVZ.

An upload error happens while the progress value is moving. The service sends the file in 64 MB parts, so a network interruption may affect a part even when earlier data transferred successfully. Keep the browser open and use a stable connection; if the interface reports a terminal error, restart the product flow rather than assuming conversion itself is broken.

A server conversion error appears after the upload has completed and the job has entered the queue or conversion state. At that point the likely focus is the actual image data, not the browser file picker. A valid extension does not prove the contents are a readable RVZ.

A download error occurs after the job is ready. Check expiry, access to the job token, destination space, and file-system limits. This stage can fail even when the server produced a valid ISO, especially when a Wii-sized file is saved to FAT32.

Confirm the file is really RVZ

RVZ is a specialized Dolphin disc-image container, not a normal ZIP-compatible archive. Do not change .zip, .7z, .rar, .wbfs, .nkit.iso, or another suffix to .rvz. Renaming changes the label seen by the browser but not the binary format processed by the conversion engine.

If the RVZ arrived inside another archive, extract that outer archive with the appropriate tool and select the actual .rvz inside. Do not attempt to use 7-Zip or WinRAR to turn RVZ itself into ISO; Dolphin's converter or our Dolphin-based server pipeline performs that container conversion. Several generic file sites blur this distinction, but Dolphin's official format documentation is the authoritative source.

Check the file size. A zero-byte file is incomplete, and an RVZ larger than the product's 10 GB limit cannot be uploaded. Retail GameCube and Wii disc-image sizes fit under that input ceiling when stored in the intended format, so an implausible size can signal the wrong file or a failed prior copy.

Fix an upload that stops or expires

Use a connection that can remain stable for the entire multi-gigabyte upload. Avoid switching from Wi-Fi to cellular, moving between VPN endpoints, closing a laptop lid, or allowing a mobile browser to be suspended. Multipart transfer reduces the scope of an individual request, but the complete file must still reach the server before conversion can begin.

The product gives an upload job a 24-hour expiry. That is not a promise that a closed browser can always resume arbitrary unfinished local file access, because browser permissions and file handles vary. If the page can no longer access the original file or reports that the upload expired, start a new job with the same verified source.

Corporate proxies, privacy extensions, or network filters can also interrupt API requests. Try the same current browser without an aggressive request-blocking extension, or use a different trusted network. Do not disable security controls permanently; the test only needs to determine whether a local policy is blocking the upload endpoint.

Fix a conversion that fails after upload

When upload completes but the server cannot convert the image, inspect the source for corruption. RVZ is designed to be lossless, but a truncated RVZ, bad storage sector, failed download, or damaged copy still contains missing or invalid data. Conversion reconstructs the contents that are present; it is not a repair process.

Open or verify the source in a current Dolphin build when available. Official RVZ support began with development build 5.0-12188, so the old 2016 5.0 stable release is not a valid compatibility test. Dolphin provides Properties → Verify → Verify Integrity, and its command-line tool supports verification hashes.

If the source fails verification, create a new dump from media you own or restore a known-good personal backup. If it passes but our product fails consistently, record the error message, file size, browser, and approximate time, then contact support without attaching or sharing copyrighted game data. That evidence can distinguish an unsupported edge case from a damaged image.

Understand lossless conversion limits

Dolphin introduced RVZ to preserve all data needed for a clean, verifiable image while achieving efficient compression. That statement applies when the RVZ was made from a complete source without irreversible removal. It does not mean an RVZ produced from already scrubbed, lossy, NKit-altered, or corrupt input magically becomes a perfect ISO.

The official Dolphin conversion interface labels Remove Junk Data as irreversible. Our online RVZ to ISO flow does not ask the user to enable that option. Nevertheless, the server can only restore the data represented by the uploaded file, so source provenance remains important.

Do not use final file size alone as proof that every sector is correct. Full GameCube and Wii disc sizes are useful sanity checks, while hashes or integrity verification provide stronger evidence. Keep the original RVZ until the ISO has passed the level of checking required by your workflow.

Fix an ISO download that will not save

Check destination capacity against complete disc sizes. Dolphin documents GameCube ISO at 1.36 GiB, single-layer Wii ISO at about 4.38 GiB, and dual-layer Wii ISO at about 7.93 GiB. The browser may also need temporary space while writing a partial download.

Then check the destination file system. FAT32 cannot store one file larger than 4 GiB, so many Wii outputs fail even when the drive has abundant total space. Download to internal storage or a suitable large-file volume, then follow the target device's documented transfer or splitting process if it ultimately requires FAT32.

A completed private result expires after 3 hours. Return to the same job page in the same browser, because its locally stored access token authorizes the download. If the output has expired or the token was cleared, the server correctly refuses access and a new conversion is required.

Fix a payment or unlock state that appears stuck

Wait for the product to confirm the job status after returning from checkout. Payment confirmation and conversion readiness are separate server events, so a short polling delay does not mean the file was lost. Keep the page open and avoid starting several checkouts for the same job.

If the state does not resolve, confirm that you returned to the original browser profile where the job credential was stored. Private browsing cleanup, cleared site data, or a different device will not have the same token. Contact support with the job identifier and payment receipt, but never post the complete private token publicly.

The service shows the exact one-time amount or account credit cost associated with that job. Do not trust a price copied from an unrelated article because product rules can change. The live result dialog is the authoritative purchase information for the current conversion.

Retry without creating the same failure

Before retrying, write down the failed stage and change the condition connected to it. For selection, choose the real RVZ. For upload, stabilize the browser and network. For conversion, verify or replace the source. For download, change the destination volume or free space.

Open the RVZ to ISO converter, submit one validated file, and watch the stage transitions. Do not delete the source after the first successful download; verify the ISO with the target tool or a hash first. If the same verified file fails twice at the same server stage, support investigation is more useful than a third identical retry.

Only convert game dumps you own or have permission to process. Dolphin's official FAQ directs users to dump their own discs rather than download commercial ROMs. This troubleshooting guide helps recover a legitimate conversion workflow; it does not provide or repair unauthorized game content.
